Two Additional Retired Teachers’ Board Seats

The CT Teachers’ Retirement Board (CTRB), charged under Connecticut law with the management of the retirement system for public school teachers, is currently comprised of three ex-officio members, five public members and six teachers. The teachers, four active and two retired, are elected by their peers for overlapping four-year terms. Board meetings are held regularly during the school year.
The recent enactment of Public Act No. 23-63 provides two additional retiree board seats to the CTRB. AN ACT CONCERNING RETIREE MEMBERS OF THE TEACHERS' RETIREMENT BOARD.
In order to properly conduct the election as required by the Public Act, to be considered for a retired teacher seat, candidates must be a retired teacher as of July 1, 2023 and obtain signatures of at least fifty (50) members of the System who are retired as of July 1, 2023. Candidates must also provide a biographical sketch of one hundred fifty (150) words or less. Non-biographical information, such as declarations of belief of platform-type statements will be edited from the candidate’s statement.
Candidates who are interested in serving on the board, which meets approximately six times per year during the school year must appear in person at TRB, 165 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT (with a government issued I.D.) and biographical sketch to register from June 30, 2023, and July 14, 2023 between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Instructions to obtain electronic signatures will be provided on July 17, 2023 (to anyone who registered).
Submitted petitions will be verified by the Teachers’ Retirement Board to confirm petition requirements have been met.
