The ARC of New London

The Arc New London County’s two-story Norwich office—a converted stone mill building--hosts a day support program for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities on the first floor.  Space is at a premium and many trainings and conferences needed to be held on the second floor. In 2015 we held a family training event attended by a group of parents seeking respite for their loved ones with disabilities. When Sandy and her daughter Sherry arrived, however, there was no way for Sherry, who was in a wheelchair, to get to the event.  We worked to move the event to another location but realized that providing complete access to all parts of the building was essential. Thanks to the installation of an elevator funded by OPM’s Non Profit Grant program, this kind of embarrassing and unacceptable experience will no longer be visited upon families at The Arc NLC.
