Drill and Ceremony

Unit members work diligently to maintain the necessary individual and collective skills necessary to execute ceremonial and other assigned missions.

Foot Guard bands rehearse regularly, practicing a variety of music that includes military, light classics, show music, novelty compositions and other genres to ensure their public performances are executed with unparalleled quality and appeal to a wide audience.

Governor Guard units participate in ceremonial events both within the state and throughout the United States, including presidential and gubernatorial inaugurations and special events parades. In addition to supporting Memorial Day and Veterans Day celebrations, unit color guards and bands present the colors at ceremonies for city parks, memorial dedications and various supporting events throughout New England, including Boston Red Sox ballgames, Talcott Mountain Music Festival, college and university graduations, the Big E, the Connecticut Day Parade, and award ceremonies at schools and institutions.

The scarlet uniforms of the foot guard and the majestic appearance of the horse guard horses make a distinct and unforgettable impression wherever they go. Foot Guard leadership When the Governor’s Guard appear in parades, the military bearing exhibited by the members favorably reflects unit lineage and honors the State of Connecticut. In all seasons and conditions, members take pride in representing Connecticut and entertaining the community in ceremonies big and small, public and private.
