Annual Training
Annual Training
Each summer, the Governor’s Guard completes one week of annual training. Activities include bivouacs, weapons training, route marches, and other exercises that build individual and unit skills.
Training focuses on mission readiness, community service, and the history and traditions of the Governor’s Guard. Members may train with firearms, helicopter operations, rifle simulators, and equipment used by the Military Department.
During training, the Governor’s Horse Guard brings horses to Camp Nett in Niantic. They set up temporary fencing and care areas for the horses while practicing mounted formations used in crowd control.
At the same time, the Governor’s Foot Guard practices manual of arms, strengthens infantry skills, and learns modern tactics. Members also perform bugle calls and musical concerts throughout the week.
Training Focus
Each year, the annual training focus is on familiarization and increasing skill sets that can be tapped into when called to service for any state emergency or ceremonial situation. The units become familiar with Connecticut National Guard equipment and training.
