World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is observed each year on June 15 to raise awareness of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults. It is an opportunity for communities to promote dignity, safety, respect, and strong support systems for older adults.

About World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was launched in 2006 to help raise awareness of elder abuse as a human rights issue and a public health issue. It encourages dialogue, education, prevention, and community action.

Recognize the Signs

Elder abuse can include physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, self-neglect, abandonment, and financial exploitation. Raising awareness helps communities recognize warning signs, respond appropriately, and connect older adults to support.

Raise Awareness in Your Community

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day can be recognized through local awareness campaigns, educational events, community outreach, social media engagement, and other activities that help promote safety, dignity, and respect for older adults.
