• 5/25/2016 State Enters Settlement with Newtown Psychiatrist Resolving False Claim Allegations

  A Newtown psychiatrist has agreed to a $422,641.70 joint federal-state settlement and will enter into a compliance program to resolve allegations that he submitted false claims for payments to Connecticut's Medicaid program and to Medicare, Attorney General George Jepsen said today…Department of Social Services Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby said, "As administering agency for Medicaid in Connecticut, DSS joins our state and federal partners in a strong commitment to protect the integrity of the program. While this false claims case does not represent medical providers as a whole, it underscores the need for continual quality control and anti-fraud oversight. We thank Attorney General Jepsen and his staff, the state Division of Criminal Justice Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, the United States Attorney's Office, and the HHS Inspector General's Office for their outstanding work in coordination with DSS quality assurance investigators."

• 4/27/2016 State Joins Joint State-Federal Settlement with Wyeth Resolving Allegations of Underpaying Rebates

  Connecticut will take part in a global $784.6 million settlement with drug-maker Wyeth to resolve allegations that the company knowingly underpaid rebates owed under the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program for the sales of the drug Protonix, Attorney General George Jepsen, Chief State's Attorney Kevin T. Kane and Department of Social Services (DSS) Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby announced today.

• 3/8/2016 AG Jepsen: State Enters Settlement with Tolland Psychiatrist Resolving False Claim Allegations

  A Tolland psychiatrist will pay $404,798 to settle a civil False Claims Act lawsuit alleging that she submitted false claims for payments to Connecticut's Medicaid program. The resolution stems from a lawsuit and settlement agreement approved yesterday by a Hartford Superior Court judge, Attorney General George Jepsen said today…"As administering agency for Medicaid in Connecticut, DSS works closely with our state and federal partners to safeguard the integrity of the program," said DSS Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby. "While this false claims case does not represent medical providers as a whole, it does highlight the fact that constant vigilance is necessary to protect taxpayer investments in public health coverage.   Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced he has activated the state's Severe Cold Weather Protocol in anticipation of temperatures in the teens and single digits and wind chills below zero overnight. The protocol is effective beginning the afternoon of Monday, January 4, 2016 and will remain in effect through the morning of Tuesday, January 5.

• 12/21/2015 State Reaches False Claims Act Settlement with Southington Dental Provider

  A Southington dentist will pay $55,000 to settle civil healthcare fraud allegations involving the filing of false and fraudulent claims for payments from Connecticut's Medicaid program, Attorney General George Jepsen said today…[The provider] has agreed to pay $55,000 to resolve the False Claims Act allegations. In addition, he has agreed to enter into a separate agreement with the Department of Social Services to be permanently barred from participation as a dentist in the CT Medical Assistance Program

• 12/17/2015 State Joins Global Settlement with with Novartis Pharmaceuticals to Resolve Kickback Allegations

  Attorney General George Jepsen, Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane and state Department of Social Services Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby announced today that Connecticut has joined a global settlement with Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. The settlement resolves allegations that Novartis provided kickbacks to certain specialty pharmacies in exchange for recommending the drug Exjade to Medicaid and Medicare patients. Novartis has paid the states and the federal government $390 million to resolve these allegations.

  Attorney General George Jepsen, Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane and state Department of Social Services (DSS) Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby announced today that Connecticut has joined a federal-state settlement with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, LP and Cephalon, Inc. to resolve allegations that the companies inappropriately overcharged state Medicaid programs for drugs.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today visited the North End Farmers’ Market in Hartford, where he held an event to promote Connecticut Grown products and encouraged residents to purchase locally-grown, healthy food at their neighborhood farmers’ markets… Some farmers’ markets, including the North End market that the Governor visited today, will actually double the face value of SNAP benefits, increasing both consumers’ buying power and the amount of product sold by farmers.
