DEEP Advises Against Contact Recreation in Mill Brook, Packers Pond, and Quinnebaug River Below Mill Brook Intersection Over Next 48 Hours Due to Sewage Bypass
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has been advised that 150,000 gallons of partially treated, but not disinfected, wastewater has bypassed the Plainfield Village wastewater treatment facility in Plainfield, CT.
The Plainfield Village facility discharges to the Mill Brook, which is a tributary to the Quinnebaug River, via Packers Pond. DEEP advises against contact recreation in Mill Brook, Packers Pond and the Quinnebaug River below the intersection with Mill Brook for the next 48 hours.
This event was related to impact on power capacity resulting from Tropical Storm Isaias. DEEP continues to monitor the impact of Tropical Storm Isaias on Connecticut’s wastewater treatment facilities.
DEEP learned this afternoon that Plainfield Village is back up-and-running providing full wastewater treatment.
