SCSU Campus Plan Update

1. Notice of Scoping for 2004 Southern Connecticut State University Campus Plan Update

Municipalities where proposed project might be located: New Haven and Hamden

Address of Possible Project Location: 501 Crescent Street, New Haven

Project Description: The proposed action is to construct, renovate and demolish facilities located on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University as recommended in the 2004 Campus Plan Update.  The Campus Plan will be implemented in the form of 20 projects ranging from academic, administrative, athletic and residential and are as follows:

1. Renovation of existing buildings - 17 buildings

2. New construction totaling 955,002 gross square feet - 13 buildings or additions to existing buildings

3. Demolition of existing buildings/temporary facilities - 13 buildings*

4. New parking garages for 2,500 cars - 4 buildings

5. New residential facilities of approximately 465 beds totaling 160,000 square feet - 2 projects

6. Athletic fields - 1 project

* The previous master plan and the current plan, call for Seabury and Earl Halls to be demolished.  Since these two projects were covered under a CEPA document (1998) for the previous master plan, these projects should not be considered under this CEPA review.

The purpose of the public scoping meeting is to receive public comments and to provide additional information regarding the proposed master plan.  The public may still submit written comments following the public scoping meeting.

The agency anticipates release of an Environmental Impact Evaluation for this project, for public review and comment, in spring 2006.
