  Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) was imprudent in its preparation for and response to Tropical Storm Irene and the October Nor’easter and should face meaningful penalties, according to Attorney General George Jepsen in a brief filed today in the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) investigation into utility companies’ responses to the two storms.

  Under an agreement filed in Superior Court today, a former tax collector for the town of Oxford who pleaded guilty to a felony larceny charge in July will have her municipal pension revoked in full, Attorney General George Jepsen said.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Attorney General George Jepsen and Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein are warning Connecticut residents to be aware of potential scams in the coming days and weeks, especially ones in which scammers offer to help people get disaster assistance from FEMA.

  Attorney General George Jepsen said that three Barnes & Noble, Inc. stores in Connecticut were among those where hackers breached point-of-sale keypad card terminals to access personal identification numbers and credit and debit card information.

• Attorney General Says Payments May be Available to Many Connecticut Borrowers Who Lost Homes to Foreclosure

  Attorney General George Jepsen said today that payment claim forms are going out to thousands of Connecticut borrowers whose homes were lost to foreclosure between Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 31, 2011, and who may be eligible for payment under the $25 billion National Mortgage Foreclosure settlement.

  Attorney General Jepsen today advised Connecticut residents who may have purchased certain eBooks that the notice process is underway in a $69 million national settlement with publishers announced earlier this year. Approximately $1.3 million of the settlement will be allotted to Connecticut consumers, if the settlement is approved by the court.
