Attorney General Tong Announces $49.5 Million Multistate Settlement with Blackbaud for Data Breach Impacting Thousands of Nonprofits and Millions of Consumers
Attorney General William Tong joined 49 other attorneys general today announcing a settlement with software company Blackbaud for its deficient data security practices and response to a 2020 ransomware event that exposed the personal information of millions of consumers across the United States. Under the settlement, Blackbaud has agreed to overhaul its data security and breach notification practices and make a $49.5 million payment to states. Connecticut will receive $602,303 from the settlement.

Connecticut Joins FTC, States Suing Amazon for Illegally Maintaining Monopoly Power
Attorney General William Tong today joined the Federal Trade Commission and 16 other state attorneys general today suing Amazon.com, Inc. alleging that the online retail and technology company is a monopolist that uses a set of interlocking anticompetitive and unfair strategies to illegally maintain its monopoly power. The FTC and its state partners say Amazon’s actions allow it to stop rivals and sellers from lowering prices, degrade quality for shoppers, overcharge sellers, stifle innovation, and prevent rivals from fairly competing against Amazon.

TikTok Refusing to Cooperate with Investigation: Attorney General Tong Supports Motion to Compel TikTok to Comply with Agreed Order
Attorney General William Tong today supported a motion filed by the Tennessee Attorney General in Tennessee state court to compel TikTok to comply with the terms of an April 17, 2023 Agreed Order requiring TikTok to produce witnesses and documents in response to an investigative Request for Information. This effort is part of a broad bi-partisan multistate investigation into TikTok’s possible violation of consumer protection laws of Connecticut and other states.

Attorney General Tong Joins Multistate Coalition in Fight Against Idaho's Radical Abortion Ban
Attorney General William Tong joined a coalition of 24 attorneys general backing the Biden administration’s challenge to Idaho’s near-total ban on abortion. In an amicus brief filed in United States of America v. Idaho, the multistate coalition supported the U.S. government’s argument that the ban conflicts with the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), a federal law that requires doctors and hospitals to provide necessary abortion care to pregnant people in case of medical emergencies.
