Lt. Governor Wyman Honors Connecticut's Fallen Heroes
(HARTFORD, CT) - Today, Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, joined by radio personality Brad Davis, Major General Thad Martin, state officials, and military families gathered to recognize the 65 Connecticut service men and women on the Wall of Honor who were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since the terrorist attacks in 2001.
"The Wall of Honor is our tribute to the heroes Connecticut lost-the men and women who gave their lives in service to this nation and in defense of our freedoms," said Lt. Governor Wyman. "It's a tangible memorial that represents our promise to our troops. That we will gather each year to remember them and the sacrifices they-and their families-have made for us, and honor the legacy they leave."
"This memorial recognizes the men and women of our state who have served with honor and given everything, and we are incredibly proud of their service to our country," said Governor Dannel P. Malloy. "We have hundreds of visitors who come to the State Capitol on a daily basis, and this memorial is a reminder that those who have made the ultimate sacrifice are truly heroes in Connecticut. It is an emotional and inspiring tribute, and I encourage everyone who visits the Capitol to see the Wall and honor Connecticut's bravest."
Established by Lt. Governor Wyman in 2007, the Wall of Honor is displayed in the concourse between the Capitol and the Legislative Office Building and includes photos of 65 Connecticut men and women from all branches of the military.
"I am proud to represent the Connecticut National Guard and join Lieutenant Governor Wyman to honor those from our state who have made the ultimate sacrifice," said Major General Thad Martin, Adjutant General and Commander of the Connecticut National Guard. "To have leadership that makes the remembrance of our fallen veterans such a priority is a tribute to the Lieutenant Governor's dedication to our troops."
"The Wall of Honor is so important, it's one of the greatest things that Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman has done for the state of Connecticut and the families of the fallen. I'm so proud to have joined her when she started this eight years ago," said Brad Davis.
2015 is the first year since inception that no new names have been added to the memorial.
