Lt. Governor Wyman Receives National Lt. Governors Association Health Leadership Award
(HARTFORD, CT) - Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman today was recognized by the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) with the Public Leadership in Advancing Healthy Lifestyles award for her work as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Access Health CT, the state's healthcare exchange.
"I am honored by this award and so appreciative of the Access Health CT team for their work to make Connecticut's exchange a national success," said Lt. Governor Wyman. "I want to thank the NLGA and Takeda Pharmaceuticals for hosting this award. Our focus was to ensure residents have affordable healthcare coverage. In real terms that means citizens are getting the care and advice they need to live healthy, productive lives. That is the real victory."
"As I've always said, Nancy Wyman is the best Lieutenant Governor in the country," said Governor Dannel P. Malloy. "We have a best-in-the-nation health exchange, and other states are working to replicate Connecticut's model. With more than 500,000 residents enrolled, we're driving down uninsured rates like never before in Connecticut. That is because her work on Access Health CT has been nothing short of exceptional. I congratulate her on this important award."
Lt. Governor Wyman's board leadership has driven a vigorous pursuit of a strong, effective enrollment system at Access Health CT and a statewide marketing strategy designed to raise the visibility of healthcare resources. In conjunction with a robust community outreach effort, Connecticut cut its uninsured rate in half to four percent during the first enrollment period in 2014. In total, Connecticut has enrolled over 500,000 residents - 140,000 of whom were previously uninsured.

Governor Wyman's integrity as a public servant and her relentless commitment to building a successful team at Access Health CT has made our state - and our country - a healthier place to live and work," said Access Health CT CEO James Wadleigh. "From the beginning, Access Health CT has been dedicated to a high-functioning marketplace that serves residents, and so far we've enrolled more than a half-million people in healthcare. We congratulate the Lt. Governor on this award and thank her for her diligence to this mission."
Connecticut's success also has broad implications on national health. Recognized as a leading system by the Kaiser Family Foundation as well as state Affordable Care experts, Access Health Connecticut developed a "boxed" exchange system for use by other states. Maryland has already adopted Connecticut's exchange technology and eight other states are reviewing our system for adoption.
The Public Leadership in Advancing Healthy Lifestyles award is presented by Takeda Pharmacueticals USA to a member of the NLGA who played a key role and demonstrated outstanding commitment to advancing the public health.
