PRESIDENT OBAMA APPROVES REQUEST FOR MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION
Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman announced tonight that President Barack Obama has approved Governor Dannel P. Malloy's November 11, 2011 request for a Major Disaster Declaration, enabling state and local governments and certain non-profits to apply for federal funding in the aftermath of October's historic storm.

"On behalf of all of the residents of our state who were affected by this storm, I am pleased that the President has approved this declaration and assistance is headed to Connecticut cities and towns," said Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman. "This storm and its aftermath were indeed major disasters for citizens across the state. We appreciate the work the President and FEMA have done to help Connecticut recover."


ASSISTANCE GRANTED :

PUBLIC ASSISTANCE : Categories A through G -Assistance for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities for the following counties:

Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, Tolland, and Windham.

Although New London County did not meet the FEMA thresholds for a major declaration, municipalities in that county are still eligible for federal financial assistance for up to 72 hours of debris removal and emergency protective measures (Categories A and B) as a result of the amended emergency declaration that was approved on November 3rd . The 72-hour periods will be decided by each individual city or town applying for assistance in New London County.

HAZARD MITIGATION GRANT PROGRAM (Assistance for actions taken to prevent or reduce long term risk to life and property from natural hazards):

All counties and Tribes in the State of Connecticut are eligible to apply for assistance under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
