You are considered fully vaccinated if it has been at least 2 weeks since you got your first J&J shot or your second Pfizer or Moderna shot. CDC recommends staying up to date with vaccines by receiving all COVID-19 vaccine doses you are eligible for, including additional doses for individuals who are immunocompromised and all booster doses recommended for your age.

The COVID-19 vaccines generally remain very effective against severe illness and death. But over time, they do decrease in effectiveness against infection. Receiving a booster shot makes you less likely to get infected or experience mild illness from the virus.

CDC and CT DPH recommend that everyone 5 years and older get a booster shot at least 5 months after completing a primary 2-shot Pfizer series (for those 5 and older) or Moderna vaccination series (for those 18 and older), or at least 2 months after receiving a 1-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccination (for those 18 and older).
