Get Ready to Apply! This November, it’s never been easier to vote in the general election. All registered voters will be receiving an absentee ballot application in the mail. If you choose to vote by mail, fill it out and place it in a drop box by your local town hall or mail it back to receive your official absentee ballot in October. You can then choose your candidates, seal your ballot, and either mail in or place it in a drop box.

Get Your Ballot. All registered Connecticut voters should have received their absentee ballot application. If you haven’t, you can download the application at myvote.ct.gov/absentee and deliver your completed application to the secure drop box outside your town hall. Once your application is received, your absentee ballot will be mailed to you in October.

On The Way. If you’ve applied for your absentee ballot, it will be mailed to you starting October 2! Once you receive your ballot, fill it out, then sign and seal the inner envelope, and place it in the outer envelope. Drop your ballot in the official ballot drop box located near your town hall, or mail the ballot back with the prepaid stamped envelope, but remember that it must be received by 8pm on November 3!

Make It Count. Make sure you fill out your absentee ballot correctly! Those who vote by absentee ballot for the November general election instead of at an in-person polling place should follow these steps when filling out their absentee ballot: Mark your ballot, completely. Fold it. Insert your ballot into the inner envelope. Sign it. Date it. Seal it. Remember: only one ballot per envelope. Insert your sealed inner envelope into the outer envelope. Return to your town clerk by placing it in a secure drop box outside of your town hall, or by mailing it in.

This November 3, all of the results of state legislative races may not be available before election night is through. With an expected increase in absentee ballots due to COVID-19, there will be more people voting absentee than ever before and it may take more than a single night to count them all. Local election officials will work hard to get all the votes counted accurately and as quickly as possible, so please be patient as the returns may come in a little more slowly this November than in previous years. Rest assured, every valid vote cast is a vote counted, no matter if you vote in-person or absentee.

Dropping off your ballot is safe, easy, and fast! Official ballot drop boxes can be used instead of mailing in your ballot. Drop it off by 8:00pm on Tuesday, November 3. Most drop boxes are located right in front of your town hall. Check your town’s official websites for updates.
