Student Voice: Leading My PPT Meeting
Current students in the Youth Advisory Council will share their experiences on various ways they are involved in the PPT process. This will include topics such as how they lead their PPT meetings, and what it looks like, feels like and sounds like to me part of an effective PPT meeting.
There will also be time for Q&A.
Unpacking My IEP
Students will review an IEP case study and have the opportunity to “unpack” their own IEPs (if they choose) on an individual level with their case manager. The goal is for students to understand the IEP document to feel more comfortable participating in their PPT meetings and advocating for themselves
Understanding Disabilities: Facts & Myths
This 1.5-hour session covers what it means to have a disability, and dispels myths and shares facts about disabilities, accommodations, etc. The goal of this session is to challenge stereotypes and promote awareness and understanding of diversity among students and staff.
Transitioning to College: A Reflection
Alumni from the Youth Advisory Council who have graduated and moved on to college will speak with middle and high school students to discuss transitioning to college, tips and tricks, time management/organization, self‐advocacy strategies, etc.
How to Be Successful in High School
High school students will share with freshmen and middle school students what they need to know in order to be successful in high school. Topics include how to advocate for yourself, leadership opportunities at school, time management/organization tips, etc.
There will also be time for Q&A.
Building Our Ideal School
Students will have the opportunity to discuss what their ideal school looks like, sounds like and feels like in order to be successful in their school community. The student insight from this session will later be shared across the state to showcase the importance of student voice in education.
