The Red, White & Blue Schools program is a civic engagement initiative led by Secretary of the State Denise Merrill and the State Department of Education.
Recognition programs demonstrate respect for educators. Meaningful, thoughtful educator appreciation programs is about valuing efforts and having respect for who educators are and what educators do while giving students, districts and school communities public recognition and a sense of pride. The Talent Office is proud to be a part of the following state and national recognition efforts.
Good attendance is essential to student achievement! Research shows that absences add up and that good attendance is essential to student achievement and graduation. Whereas, chronic absence and truancy can be lead to school drop-out, academic failure and juvenile delinquency. By removing barriers to attendance, districts, schools and community partners can improve attendance.
Increasing Educator Diversity (IED) Policy Oversight Council
Advise the Commissioner of Education on ways to encourage minority middle and secondary school students to attend institutions of higher education and enter teacher preparation programs, recruit minority students attending institutions of higher education to enroll in teacher preparation programs and pursue teaching careers, recruit and retain minority teachers in Connecticut schools, recruit minority teachers from other states to teach in Connecticut schools, and recruit minority professionals in other fields to enter teaching.
Connecticut's Approved K-3 Reading Curriculum Models or Programs
State law requires the Center for Literacy Research and Reading Success at the CSDE to review and approve at least five reading curriculum models or programs that must be implemented by all public-school districts effective the 2023–24 school year.
