Adventures with Molly and Dyslexia
In partnership with BSE

In 2016, Krista Weltner obtained a master’s in fine arts from the University of Connecticut, where she presented her master's project and short film, Partially Compensated, which was inspired by her experience with dyslexia. This short film has been seen in film festivals worldwide and has afforded her numerous opportunities to engage and advocate with others for a more inclusive world.
Currently, Krista is a digital illustrator, author, and puppet maker. Her picture book series, Everyday Adventures with Molly and Dyslexia (Free Spirit Publishing) was inspired by her own experience growing up with Dyslexia. Students are invited to join Krista for a virtual read-aloud of Adventures with Molly and Dyslexia. Krista will also answer questions and engage students in discussion about the arts.

Unlocking the World: Strategies for Comprehension
In partnership with Connecticut Parent Advocacy Center

Discussion with Dr. Maureen Ruby: While students are learning how to read, they must also be learning about the world. Learning strategies for understanding what they hear and what is read to them prepares students for understanding what they will eventually read on their own. The goal of reading is to comprehend. When you can read and comprehend, you can unlock the world and do just about anything. Learning strategies for all types of reading are tools that are developed early on and built upon over a lifetime.

Location: Virtual.
