Connecticut Reads 2026

 

Calling all learners and families! Get ready to choose your own adventure with Connecticut Reads this summer. Explore a range of options—from visiting your local public library to enjoying StoryWalk® installations in state parks, where families can read and walk together while experiencing the outdoors. These StoryWalk® sites are part of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s No Child Left Inside® Families in the Parks Program.

To support summer reading, the Connecticut State Library’s statewide eGo eBook platform is also available through many public libraries, offering access to digital books and audiobooks via The Palace Project App. Visit the website to see which libraries currently provide eGo access.

The Barbara Bush Fund for Family Literacy, part of the George & Barbara Bush Foundation, equips families and educators with high-quality resources and support to strengthen children’s literacy development, foster a love of reading, and build the confidence needed for lifelong learning. 

Storyline Online®  
This award-winning children’s literacy program streams video featuring children’s books read by celebrated actors. Storyline Online is a nonprofit organization that promotes lifelong literacy.  

No Child Left Inside® (NCLI) Families in the Parks Program 
Experience activities, library programs, pop-up events, and StoryWalk ® installations at various CT State Park and Forest locations. Learn more about the wide choice of free, fun, and educational outdoor recreational opportunities at the NCLI Families in the Parks Program website. 

The 2026 Nutmeg Book Award Winners
The Nutmeg Book Award is a great way to get kids excited about reading! Visit the Nutmeg Book Award website to see the 2026 winners and the 2027 nominees. Students and families can explore a selection of fantastic books and choose their favorites from ten nominated titles. The books are organized by grade level—2–3, 4–6, 7–8, and 9–12—so there is something for every age group!

Reading Rainbow Stories
Reading Rainbow premiered in 1983 and quickly became a highly successful television program that inspires a love of reading and helps children build lasting connections with books. Its website offers a variety of activities and educational resources for you to enjoy with your child after watching each episode.
