Fall 2023 Alliance District Symposium
CSDE Updates: Data, Policy, Curriculum
September 28, 2023
The Connecticut State Department of Education hosted the Fall 2023 Alliance District Symposium on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the Sheraton Hartford South Hotel in Rocky Hill. Centered on the theme “CSDE Updates: Data, Policy, Curriculum – Three Resources That Lead to Equity-Based Strategy Implementation,” the event brought together district leaders for a morning of learning, discussion, and strategic planning.
The symposium opened with remarks from Irene Parisi, Chief Academic Officer, followed by a comprehensive update from Ajit Gopalakrishnan, Chief Performance Officer, who guided participants through the EdSight Dashboard and explored how data visualizations can support districts in advancing equity-based strategies.
Participants then engaged in Legislative Process 101 in Connecticut, led by Laura Stefon, Chief of Staff, which provided district teams with an overview of Connecticut’s legislative process and opportunities to explore how policy shapes local decision-making.
Following a brief break, the symposium continued with Curriculum Matters: CSDE Model Curricula, facilitated by Irene Parisi. District teams examined the role of high-quality curricula in school improvement and discussed ways to use the CSDE Model Curricula for research, evaluation, and implementation.
The event concluded with a debrief and reflections on next steps, allowing participants to consider how to apply the tools and insights shared throughout the morning.
