Important Note:  Local governments in Connecticut are also eligible to apply for funds through a State-administered criminal justice grant program--the Connecticut Local Pass-Through JAG (CT JAG).

Use of Funds: Support all components of the criminal justice system, from multi-jurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections, treatment, and justice information sharing initiatives. JAG funded projects may address crime through the provision of services directly to individuals and/or communities and by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of criminal justice systems, processes, and procedures.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) calculates, for each state and territory, a minimum base allocation which, based on the statutory JAG formula, can be enhanced by (1) the state’s share of the national population, and (2) the state’s share of the country’s Part 1 violent crime statistics. Once the state funding is calculated, 60 percent of the allocation is awarded to the state, and 40 percent to eligible units of local government.

APPLICATION: If eligible, local governments must apply directly to the U.S. Department of Justice.  All necessary grant documents must be submitted through the U.S. Department of Justice Grants Management System (GMS).  Please review the Local (Direct) Solicitation document at this address:
