Greetings from Tim Larson, Commissioner

Welcome to the Connecticut Office of Higher Education!

Our goal is to promote access to exceptional and relevant learning experiences, and we encourage you to explore the links provided throughout our website to learn more about these opportunities.

Since its establishment in July 2011 (CGS Sec. 10a-1d), our agency has been dedicated to assisting Connecticut residents in taking the next step in their educational journeys beyond high school. This website serves as a valuable resource, offering comprehensive information about our Office’s functions—from helping students explore options for financing their education to ensuring private colleges and career schools meet rigorous state quality standards.

Additionally, you’ll find details about Connecticut’s highly successful Alternate Route to Certification program, state scholarship initiatives, and AmeriCorps programs.

Specifically, our agency is responsible for:

  • Administering the Roberta B. Willis Scholarship and other financial aid programs,
  • Authorizing new private career schools to help develop Connecticut’s future skilled workforce,
  • Reviewing Veterans’ educational programs accessed with VA benefits,
  • Supporting programs designed to prepare and empower students for college success,
  • Providing a rigorous alternative route for college graduates seeking teaching certification, and
  • Managing Connecticut’s branch of AmeriCorps (Serve Connecticut).

We welcome your comments and invite you to contact our office to learn more about our work and how we can support your educational goals.

With best wishes,

Timothy D. Larson

Commissioner, Office of Higher Education
