Gov. Malloy: FEMA, FCC to Conduct First Nationwide Test of Emergency Alert System
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on Wednesday, November 9 at 2 p.m. EST.

Governor Malloy announced today that United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack has granted his September 15 request for a disaster designation in Connecticut due to agricultural losses caused by Tropical Storm Irene.

Gov. Malloy: Conn. Selected to Participate in National Policy Academy on Growth of Advanced Manufacturing Industries

Malloy today announced that the State of Connecticut is among seven states selected by the National Governors Association (NGA) to participate in a national Policy Academy that will assist states in developing and implementing successful economic development strategies focused on the growth of advanced manufacturing industries.

Gov. Malloy Announces Launch of Startup Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined with business leaders to announce the launch of Startup Connecticut, a new initiative that will help to reinvent Connecticut by assisting high-growth entrepreneurship throughout the state. Startup Connecticut will be part of a national network of state and regional efforts coordinated by the Startup America Partnership, the national organization working to help young companies grow in order to create jobs in the country. Connecticut becomes the third state in the nation to adopt its own regional initiative.

Thursday: Gov. Malloy Hosts Economic Summit to Help Reinvent Connecticut
On Thursday, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will host an Economic Summit focusing on ways in which we can Reinvent Connecticut at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. The summit will feature experts and speakers from academia and the private and public sectors, who will discuss ways in which Connecticut can lead the way into a 21st century economy. The event will help shape some legislative proposals for the October 26 Special Session focused on job creation.

Wednesday: Gov. Malloy Speaks at Business Energy Conference, CT Conference of Municipalities Convention, and Social Enterprise Summit
On Wednesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will give the keynote address at the “What’s the Deal?” business energy conference in Cromwell, hosted by the Connecticut Business and Industry Association and the Connecticut Power & Energy Society. Dept. of Emergency Services & Public Protection Release: Disaster Recovery Center and Disaster Loan Outreach Center Closings Start Thursday, October 6th
Federal and state officials today announced the closing of the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport and six Disaster Loan Outreach Centers (DLOCs) operated by the U.S. Small Business Administration in North Haven, Farmington, Groton, Torrington, Orange and Guilford on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.

Dept. of Emergency Services & Public Protection Release: Commissioner Bradford and Secretary Barnes Announce Layoff Notices Rescinded for 56 State Troopers
Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Commissioner Reuben Bradford and Office of Policy and Management Secretary Ben Barnes today announced that the layoff notices for 56 State Troopers who were laid off beginning on August 24 have been rescinded. Since the state employee unions ratified the second SEBAC agreement, 40 sworn personnel of various ranks have chosen to retire.

Gov. Malloy: Federal Assistance for Individuals Tops $5 Million for Tropical Storm Irene
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that more than $5,089,356.61 in federal assistance to date has been approved to help Connecticut residents with disaster expenses following President Obama’s approval of the Governor’s Disaster Declaration request as a result of Tropical Storm Irene.

Gov. Malloy: New Billion Dollar Jackson Lab Project Highlights Immediate Return on Investment in Bioscience Connecticut
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today said that Jackson Laboratory’s (JAX) decision to launch a billion dollar personalized medicine project on the campus of the University of Connecticut Health Center highlights an immediate return on the investment the state made earlier this year in Bioscience Connecticut, and that it shows Connecticut’s research triangle is “coming to life.”
