Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Statements on the Expansion of the Democratic Majority in the General Assembly

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements regarding the expansion of the Democratic majority in both chambers of the Connecticut General Assembly:

Governor Malloy said, “Congratulations to the Senate and House Democratic leadership teams and to all the newly elected and returning legislators. By voting to expand Democratic majorities in the General Assembly, Connecticut residents have unequivocally rejected the hateful politics and backwards policies espoused by the Trump administration and national Republicans. From misguided attempts to strip health coverage from millions of people, to the passage of massive tax cuts primarily benefiting the wealthiest Americans and largest corporations, to the rollback of the rights of women and LGBTQ people, to an utter refusal to take any meaningful action on gun violence prevention, the GOP in Washington has proven that they are incapable of governing and unfit to lead. I am hopeful that the new, emboldened Democratic majority here in Connecticut will stand up for the values that make Connecticut strong – fairness, justice and compassion, for an economy that gives everyone in our state the opportunity to succeed, and for the rights of those marginalized by this administration.”

Lt. Governor Wyman said, “Congratulations to the Democratic candidates for maintaining leadership of Connecticut’s General Assembly. You have earned the confidence of voters across the state, and they have entrusted you to make the tough decisions and lead us through the challenging times ahead with compassion and fairness. I am confident that you are up to the task and will continue to move Connecticut forward.”
