Gov. Malloy: American Job Center in Montville Will Provide Services for Jobseekers, Businesses
(MONTVILLE, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today held a ceremony to mark the grand opening of the new American Job Center East in Montville and showcased the wide variety of employment services and programs the full-service center provides to jobseekers and employers.
The new facility, located at 601 Norwich-New London Turnpike (Suite 1), offers a fully-equipped career center and conference rooms for holding regional hiring events and employment workshops. Services for jobseekers include career counseling, résumé-writing assistance, apprenticeship programs, special services for veterans, on-site employer recruitments and a self-service career center with computers, internet service, research materials and phones.
“We hear daily from employers who are trying to fill the increasing number of manufacturing jobs being created in eastern Connecticut and throughout the state,” Governor Malloy said. “This office is one more way we can offer comprehensive and innovative strategies for developing and growing our workforce. The successful Eastern Connecticut Pipeline program with Electric Boat – housed right in this job center – is just one of the many pioneering job training programs that are getting our residents into good-paying careers.”
The center is staffed with a specialist offering in-person unemployment insurance assistance in answering questions, assisting those using the online filing system, and referring them to job center services. For local employers, business service specialists can meet with businesses interested in hiring qualified employees, tax credit programs, or taking advantage of training incentives and apprenticeship programs. More than a dozen workforce partners are located at the center, providing employment services for jobseekers and employers, and job-related services that include adult education, transportation solutions, pipelines to manufacturing careers, and disability employment services.

Governor Wyman said. “Whether companies need help finding the right employee for their business, or a jobseeker wants assistance developing their skills or a résumé, this is a great place for making those valuable employment connections.”
“This partnership provides exciting paths forward to better livelihoods and lives for countless workers – and promotes talent and skills necessary for our national interest,” U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal said. “Employers like Electric Boat are bringing hundreds of new skilled, high-paying jobs to the eastern Connecticut economy, and the American Job Center East will help ensure that jobseekers are trained and prepared to take advantage of these good opportunities. This is exactly the kind of investment in people and partnerships we should be making to bolster our economy.”
“All across our state, career opportunities are rapidly opening in the aerospace, maritime, and healthcare industries and we need trained workers to fill these skilled positions,” Congressman Joe Courtney said. “According to the National Association of Manufacturers, there will be 3.5 million open manufacturing positions nationwide through 2025. These are the sorts of jobs that young Connecticut residents can build lifetime careers around and this center will help make sure they have the skills they need to land them.”
Today’s event was hosted by the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) and the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board (EWIB).
“The strong workforce partnerships we have developed allow us to offer an extremely effective one-stop employment center for residents in eastern Connecticut,” CTDOL Commissioner Kurt Westby said. “Whether you are a jobseeker looking for new or better employment, or a business interested in finding job-ready employees to meet your company needs, Connecticut’s newest American Job Center is a great resource for the entire community.”
“This newest center showcases the tremendous impact organizational partnerships have within a region, both public and private,” EWIB President John Beauregard said. “On average, 11,000 people visit our region’s centers annually and the comprehensive services offer many career opportunities for our residents. The centers also serve as a talent pipeline for employers, with the public-private nature of this center making it unique. For example, Electric Boat and other employers will have personnel on-site to recruit and hire jobseekers as part of the region’s manufacturing pipeline program.”
Mary Ellen Jukoski, President of Three Rivers Community College, said that a partnership with Grasso Technical High School in Norwich will allow the Manufacturing Pipeline to increase its capacity and classroom space for students studying for careers in advanced manufacturing. “The new job center further supports the partnership the school has with the Labor Department and the EWIB in creating a strong workforce,” she explained.
The American Job Center East is open Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Members of the public are welcome to visit the office and explore the variety of services offered.
