Gov. Malloy Applauds Legislative Approval of Home Care Workers Agreement
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy released the following statement applauding both chambers of the Connecticut General Assembly for voting today to give final approval to an amended contract for personal care attendants, which raises wages and adds workers’ compensation for thousands of workers across the state:
“Today is a good day for many hardworking men and women in our state. We applaud the General Assembly for approving this agreement that ensures fairer treatment for nearly 13,000 personal care attendants in Connecticut. These professionals work around the clock to provide lifesaving, critical care for thousands of elderly residents and people who have disabilities – and they do it in homes, which ultimately is better for both patients and for taxpayers. And the agreement also provides a more stable workforce for the nearly 5,000 consumer employers who receive these services. These workers deserve a livable wage and to finally be covered for workers’ compensation – and the agreement approved today with bipartisan legislative support does just that.”
