Gov. Malloy Statement on Today’s Legislative Hearing Concerning the Nomination of Justice McDonald

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy released the following statement regarding today’s hearing in the General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee on the nomination of Associate Justice Andrew J. McDonald to serve as Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court:

“After today’s hearing, there should be no doubt that Andrew McDonald has the qualifications, experience, and temperament to lead the state’s highest court. He was open, transparent, and forthright about his judicial record and leadership experience. He also made clear his respect for the letter of the law, specifically citing numerous decisions where he has noted, in decisions where the outcome required by the law was unfortunate or unintended, that the issue was within the purview of the legislature, not the court. It is clear that Justice McDonald is eminently qualified and should be confirmed, as legal experts throughout the state have agreed. I look forward to the full House and Senate taking up his nomination.”
