Gov. Malloy, Lt. Gov. Wyman, and Commissioner Klee Blast Trump Administration’s Plan to Roll Back Off-Shore Drilling Ban

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Rob Klee released the following statements regarding the Trump administration’s plan to drastically increase off-shore oil and gas drilling off of America’s coastlines:

Governor Malloy said, “This is yet another disgraceful and unnecessary action from an administration that has taken us light years backward in the fight against climate change. It stands only to hurt Connecticut’s economy, our natural resources, and our coastal communities. We need a federal government that will stand up and protect our environment. Sadly, this president has once again put special interests before people.”

Lt. Governor Wyman said, “This is a reprehensible policy change. We are the stewards of our natural world and must make every effort to reduce our carbon footprint and slow global warming. To protect our environment is to protect our public health, our air, and our water supply – and forge a better future for our kids. Our nation’s commitment to alternative energy innovation and technology represents our progress as a society and stands as a model to our neighbors throughout the globe – and that is the right direction for our state and our country.”

Commissioner Klee said, “We are once again shaking our heads at this latest action by the Trump administration. Connecticut has a long and proud fishing tradition and this decision further endangers that industry. Protecting our natural resources has been a core American value for more than a century, and this decision is antithetical to that core value. However, we are hopeful that with the near universal opposition by leaders of both parties as well as scientists, President Trump and Secretary Zinke will see the error in their ways and move to reverse this shameful action.”
