Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Statements on Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements regarding the announcement made today by Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richard that she plans to step down from her position with the organization later this year:
Governor Malloy said, “Cecile Richards has dedicated her life to advancing and protecting access to reproductive health care. The more than 10 years she spent at the helm of Planned Parenthood saw some of the fiercest, most partisan, and most hypocritical assaults on women’s healthcare in generations. The importance of her unwavering leadership through these countless attacks cannot be overstated. Cecile will be missed in this role, but we are confident that the organization will carry forward her commitment, resiliency, and bravery. I know that we will see more great things from her in the years ahead.”
Lt. Governor Wyman said, “Cecile Richards has been the face of a movement credited with major accomplishments in women’s healthcare. Her fearlessness and unapologetic championing of women’s health has rallied millions of people to the important mission of Planned Parenthood as community healthcare providers and experts in reproductive health services. We look forward to her continued leadership as she shifts her focus to preparing the next generation of pro-woman, pro-family leaders.”
