Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Applaud Ruling That Will Allow Transgender People to Enlist in Military as Court Case Advances

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman are applauding a federal court ruling released today requiring the Trump administration to accept transgender recruits into the military by January 1 and denying a request by the administration to continue its ban pending further review.

Governor Malloy said, “Today’s court decision gives hope that any attempt to mandate discrimination through executive order will be ruled unconstitutional. Our Armed Forces are the strongest in the world and only further strengthened by inclusion and diversity. While this case is far from resolved, our hope is that reason will continue to prevail.”

Lt. Governor Wyman said, “Banning transgender citizens from the military was a reckless and nonsensical approach to policy. Transgender citizens are already honorably serving in our nation’s military, and we are grateful to them and to their families for the sacrifices they make in support of our freedoms. I applaud the recent court decisions upholding the rights of transgender people to serve openly in our Armed Forces.”
