(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today released the following statements regarding the passing of former U.S. Senator, Marine, and astronaut John Glenn:Governor Malloy said, “Our nation has lost the last of our first generation of space heroes in Senator John Glenn. An inspiration for millions of Americans who watched those early missions on black and white televisions, he and the other Mercury astronauts bravely ventured into the unknown, testing the limits of scientific and engineering knowledge. A veteran of two wars, a NASA astronaut, and a former United States Senator, John Glenn epitomized his generation – a true public servant who selflessly dedicated his life to the betterment of all.”
Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman said, “I join the country in mourning the loss of a great American hero. John Glenn’s commitment to public service has had an enormous impact on this nation. He served his country admirably in war and in peace, here at home and far away, and he embodied a spirit of exploration that furthered our understanding of our place in the world. He made a tremendous mark on history. He will be missed.”
