Governor Malloy Press Release Masthead
September 3, 2013
WEDNESDAY: GOV. MALLOY PARTICIPATES IN CITIZEN CORPS CONFERENCE; COMMEMORATES PASSAGE OF BIOSCIENCE INNOVATION ACT; PROMOTES TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN NORTHWESTERN CONN.
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Wednesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will make remarks at the 6th annual Connecticut Citizen Corps Council Conference in Westbrook.
Following that, Governor Malloy will hold a bill signing ceremony at the UConn Health Center (UCHC) in Farmington to commemorate final approval of the Bioscience Innovation Act - a legislative initiative the Governor proposed in January that makes a $200 million investment over ten years to support the state's growing bioscience sector, attract additional private investments, and grow high-quality jobs in Connecticut. The ceremony will be preceded by a walking tour to view the progress being made on the construction of the Bioscience Connecticut and Jackson Laboratories projects on the UCHC campus.
In the afternoon, Governor Malloy will visit two tourist attractions in Farmington and West Simsbury to showcase some of the popular destinations the state has to offer. In Connecticut, travel and tourism activities generate $11.5 billion annually in economic activity and are responsible for 110,000 jobs. The sector saw a 3.9% employment growth in 2012 and not only has been adding jobs beyond its prerecession level, but has recovered 200% of the jobs lost.
