GOV. MALLOY: METRO-NORTH RIDERS URGED TO SEEK ALTERNATE SERVICE DUE TO POWER FAILURE
Governor to Hold News Briefing at 4PM Today
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy is urging riders of Metro-North's New Haven Line to seek alternate service and avoid taking the train today, Wednesday, September 25, 2013, if at all possible, due to the loss of Con Edison feeders that supply power to the line between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal.
Extremely limited train service using diesel locomotives between Grand Central and Stamford is now in effect, running hourly and making all local stops to Stamford. Electric train service between New Haven and Stamford will continue to operate.
Metro-North is warning that this service plan can accommodate 10 percent of the regular ridership on the New Haven Line. As a result, customers should seek alternate service and expect crowded conditions. New Haven Line tickets continue to be cross honored on the Harlem Line. Con Edison is working at the scene to assess the extent of the damage and then determine the length of time to return power to the New Haven Line.
Governor Malloy will hold a news briefing from the State Emergency Operations Center in Hartford at 4PM today to provide updates.
