WEDNESDAY: GOV. MALLOY DISCUSSES URBAN CRIME IN NORWICH; VISITS SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS IN NIANTIC

(HARTFORD, CT) - On Wednesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will join Norwich Mayor Peter Nystrom, Norwich Police Chief Louis J. Fusaro, Sr., and members of the Norwich community for a roundtable discussion on urban crime, including crime reduction strategies and community policing efforts.

Following that, Governor Malloy will visit several small businesses in Niantic - a town that was recently named "Fan-Favorite Still Revolutionary Town of the Year" in a contest held by the Connecticut Office of Tourism. The Governor, joined by First Selectman Paul Formica and Department of Economic and Community Development Deputy Commissioner Kip Bergstrom, will tour the downtown area and speak with business owners to discuss the role of tourism in the state's economic development strategy. In Connecticut, travel and tourism activities generate $11.5 billion annually in economic activity and are responsible for 110,000 jobs. The sector saw a 3.9% employment growth in 2012 and not only has been adding jobs beyond its prerecession level, but has recovered 200% of the jobs lost.
