WEDNESDAY: GOV. MALLOY ATTENDS OPENING OF THE KITCHEN AT HARTFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY; PROMOTES TOURISM IN WESTERN CONN.; CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY OF MLK'S "I HAVE A DREAM" SPEECH
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Wednesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will attend the grand opening ceremony of The Kitchen at Hartford Public Library.
Following that, Governor Malloy will visit tourist attractions in Western Connecticut - including Cheshire, Waterbury and Middlebury - to showcase some of the popular destinations the state has to offer. In Connecticut, travel and tourism activities generate $11.5 billion annually in economic activity and are responsible for 110,000 jobs. The sector saw a 3.9% employment growth in 2012 and not only has been adding jobs beyond its prerecession level, but has recovered 200% of the jobs lost.
At 3PM, Governor Malloy will join faith and community leaders at Mt. Olive AME Zion Church in Waterbury to join in the ringing of bells as part of the nationwide commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.
In the evening, Governor Malloy will give remarks at "The Dream Continues" ceremony held by the Town of Manchester to commemorate the anniversary of Dr. King's speech.
