GOV. MALLOY NAMES TWO TO SERVE ON CRIME VICTIM PRIVACY PANEL
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has appointed Officer Jillian Knox of New Haven and Andrew Woods of Hartford to serve on a new task force that will be responsible for reviewing and making recommendations regarding the balance between the privacy of crime victims and the public's right to obtain certain documents related to crimes.
Officer Jillian Knox joined the New Haven Police Department in 2002, where she served as a Patrol Officer for several years. She later spent a year and a half on assignment with the detective's bureau investigating sexual assaults. Soon thereafter, she worked with children as a School Resource Officer at Riverside High School. Her latest assignment has been with the Victim Services Unit, where she helps victims of crime stabilize their lives after experiencing various degrees of trauma.
Woods is the Executive Director of Hartford Communities that Care, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create a nonviolent, drug-free environment through the coordination and collaboration of services, promotion of education, healthy lifestyles, and practices, and by the formation of effective partnerships with key members of the community. The organization through its Hartford Crisis Response Team provides a variety of services to victims of weapon assaults and to families of homicide victims, including short and long-term counseling, and financial assistance for expenses related to crimes.
Established by legislation that Governor Malloy signed into law in June, the task force consists of seventeen members representing various backgrounds, including law enforcement personnel, victim advocates, freedom of information officials, academics, representatives appointed by the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists, and appointments by legislative leadership. The chairpersons will be selected from among the members of the task force by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate.
The group is required to submit its report of recommendations by January 1, 2014.
