GOV. MALLOY STATEMENT ON NEW HAVEN SHOOTING ARRESTS
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released the following statement following the arrest of two individuals allegedly responsible for the shooting of an 18-month-old in New Haven last week:
"I want to commend Chief Dean Esserman and everyone on the New Haven Police Department, the state Department of Correction and the New Haven State's Attorney's Office for their heroic work in bringing these two individuals to justice. I would also like to commend the community for standing with law enforcement and playing a critical role in these arrests. These arrests prove that collaboration between state and local law enforcement can bring swift justice.
"Gun violence is already taking too large a toll on many of our urban communities. But when that violence affects someone as young as Tramire, it takes everyone - law enforcement and the community - to stand up and say enough is enough.
"We continue to pledge the full cooperation of state law enforcement officials in the effort to curb gun violence."
In June, Governor Malloy announced "Focused Deterrence," a program designed to reduce gun violence in cities where shootings remain objectionably high.
