WEDNESDAY: GOV. MALLOY ATTENDS HARTFORD DISTRIBUTORS MEMORIAL; CONTINUES ON JOBS TOUR IN DANBURY
(HARTFORD, CT) - On Wednesday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will attend a ceremony dedicating a memorial garden on the grounds of Hartford Distributors, Inc. in honor of the eight men whose lives were lost on the site on August 3, 2010. The garden includes eight stainless steel sculptures in remembrance of each of the men.
Following the ceremony, Governor Malloy will make three stops on his Jobs Tour in Danbury.
At 11:00, Governor Malloy will visit with the executives and staff of Hologic, Inc. The company is a leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of premium diagnostic products, medical imaging systems, and surgical products dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of women throughout the world. Its Danbury manufacturing facility employs 325 people and focuses on developing state-of-the-art digital imaging technology for mammography applications.
At 1:00, Governor Malloy will visit Danbury Hospital's Biomedical Research Institute to tour the facility and meet with its staff, including Danbury Hospital CEO Dr. John Murphy. The institute, established last year with a team of renowned physician scientists known for their groundbreaking work in the fields of cancer and proteomics, has a state-of-the-art laboratory that focuses on women's reproductive cancers. Its 20 employees work in high-tech science positions.
At 1:45, Governor Malloy will visit the main campus of Danbury Hospital to tour its expansion project with Dr. Murphy. The hospital's expansion will add approximately 300,000 square feet of new construction to its existing campus, creating 500 new jobs that will infuse an estimated $250 million into the local economy over the next few years.
