GOV. MALLOY, SEN. BYE & REP. WADSWORTH ANNOUNCE STATE FUNDING FOR TUNXIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Will create or retain 265 construction jobs
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy, State Senator Beth Bye (D-West Hartford) and State Representative Bill Wadsworth (R-Farmington) today announced that the State Bond Commission is expected to approve funding for upgrades to Tunxis Community College in Farmington at its meeting on Friday.
The $15 million allocation will be used to construct a new 56,000 square foot classroom building on the campus that will have 18 general purpose classrooms and two computer labs.
Governor Malloy said, "Upgrading the infrastructure at our state's community colleges will help our state's residents further their education in a convenient and cost-effective way, while ensuring that the facilities are prepared to train students in a cutting-edge, competitive way."
"Our community college system is under increasing pressure as more and more state residents choose to attend these fine institutions. Adding classrooms and computer labs will help address that demand," said Senator Bye, who is Senate Chairman of the legislature's Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee. "Our community colleges do a fine job of preparing students for our modern workforce needs; that's good for business, and it's good for residents preparing to enter the job market."
"I am very pleased with the investment the State of Connecticut is making to benefit Tunxis Community College and it was a pleasure working alongside President Addy to ensure this project would proceed," said Representative Wadsworth. "This bonding will give Tunxis the ability to provide an enhanced education to many students in the region."
It is expected that the project will create or retain approximately 265 construction jobs. The State Bond Commission is scheduled to vote on the item at its July 29 meeting at 10:30 a.m. in Room 1E of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
