GOV. MALLOY: NAVY AWARDS $2.4 MILLION CONTRACT FOR SUB BASE BOILER PROJECT TO LOCAL CONTRACTOR
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy was pleased to see the U.S. Navy's announcement awarding a $2.4 million contract for the construction of a replacement boiler at the Naval Submarine Base New London to a Groton contractor. The state funded project was awarded to KMK Construction, producing an immediate return on investment and creating and maintaining local jobs.
"We are thrilled that the contract for this project has been awarded to a Connecticut firm that has agreed to use all local subcontractors," Governor Malloy said. "These are Connecticut jobs that will help support the Connecticut economy, while enhancing the military value of the submarine base. It's a win-win for us."
Governor Malloy said Connecticut's investments in the base only complement much greater federal investments to strengthen the base's position to withstand a future Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission. There is nearly $90 million worth of federally funded military construction projects underway on the base. The base accounts for about 15,000 jobs and has a $4.5 billion annual economic impact in Connecticut's economy.
