GOV. MALLOY: BOND COMMISSION AGENDA WILL INCLUDE $2.5 MILLION FOR REMEDIATION OF LAND NEXT TO KAMAN AEROSPACE IN BLOOMFIELD
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that next week's Bond Commission Agenda will include $2.5 million for the remediation of an 85-acre site adjacent to Kaman Aerospace Corp. in Bloomfield that was acquired from the U.S. Navy.
"Kaman Aerospace was recently awarded a $36 million contract from the United States Air Force to resume its production and distribution of bomb fuses to the military, and this grant for the remediation of the adjoining site will help allow for the retention and future creation of jobs there," Governor Malloy said.
The company will remediate the acquired property for future use, allowing for the retention of 300 jobs at the facility. Additionally, as a result of the construction activity generated by this project, 94 direct jobs and 116 supplier jobs will be created or retained.
"Kaman Aerospace is a leading employer in Bloomfield, and I am very pleased to see their business develop and grow. This grant will support the retention of 300 jobs at the Bloomfield plant, and a further 210 construction jobs as Kaman expands their operations. This is great news for job seekers," said State Senator Eric Coleman (D-Bloomfield).
State Representative David Baram (D-Bloomfield, Windsor) said, "Kaman Aerospace is one of Bloomfield's most prestigious businesses that has a national and international reputation. Providing Kaman with bond money is sure to promote jobs, taxes and local growth. I am pleased to join Governor Malloy in making this announcement and extending congratulations to one of Connecticut's premier businesses."
"Kaman Aerospace has been a wonderful corporate citizen of our community for many years and I'm pleased to see that the state is working to make sure they remain an important part of the region's economy," said State Representative Matthew Ritter (D-Hartford, Bloomfield). "It is critical that we target business incentives to companies that are committed to growing and thriving in Connecticut, and Kaman has always proven to be a good investment."
The State Bond Commission is scheduled to vote on the item at its April 29 meeting at 10:30 a.m. in Room 1E of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
