GOVERNOR MALLOY REAPPOINTS ROBERT T. ROSS AS
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF OFFICE OF MILITARY AFFAIRS
(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has reappointed Robert T. Ross as the Executive Director of the Office of Military Affairs. Mr. Ross has served in this capacity since July 2009.
"I'm pleased to reappoint Bob Ross to this critical position, which combines military knowledge with job creation and expansion ideas," said Governor Malloy. "Bob has had a long career in the Navy, and brings first-hand experience in regional and municipal government to his position. You cannot talk about Connecticut's economy without talking about our defense industry. It's my hope that Bob will help us expand the industry and keep Connecticut's sub base open, active and a vibrant part of southeastern Connecticut's way of life."

"Connecticut's military and defense history is a long and storied one, and I'm eager to work to keep it that way."
In his role as the Executive Director of the Office of Military Affairs, Mr. Ross helps to coordinate efforts to prevent the closure or downsizing of the Naval Submarine Base in Groton; supports Connecticut's military families; advocates for Connecticut's defense industries; encourages the retention of established military missions and the relocation of new ones to the state; and serves as liaison to the Connecticut Congressional delegation on defense and military issues.
Mr. Ross enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served at sea and ashore specializing in human resources management. Mr. Ross used the G.I. Bill to attend college, and was commissioned an officer in 1986. As a Surface Warfare Officer, he piloted aircraft carriers and guided missile cruisers in international waters. He was selected for special duty as a Navy Public Affairs Officer in 1991, and in this role coordinated internal communications, media and community relations. He served as a Navy spokesman at the Pentagon from 1991 to 1992. During his career, he directed public affairs for Submarine Group TWO and Navy Region Northeast, encompassing all Navy bases in New England, New York and New Jersey. He directed community and media relations for the Atlantic Fleet, based in Norfolk, VA. In his last Navy assignment, he was Director of Public Affairs for the United States Sixth Fleet, based in Gaeta, Italy.
Following his retirement from the Navy, he served as an Emergency Manager and the City Administrator for the City of Cripple Creek, Colorado. In 2007, after returning to Salem, CT, he was elected the town's First Selectman, and continues to serve as a member of their Board of Selectmen.
He holds masters degrees in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, and Public Policy and Administration from the University of Connecticut.
Bob Ross resides in Salem, CT with his wife Nita and their children.
