GOVERNOR MALLOY ACTIVATES EMERGENCY OPERATION CENTER

TUESDAY AT 9 A.M.

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy will activate the state's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to respond to another possibly substantial storm gearing up to blast the state with snow, ice, sleet and rain over the next 36 hours. The EOC will open at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and will remain open throughout the storm.

"After talking with my commissioners and assessing the situation, we are activating the EOC this morning so we have public safety, transportation, and emergency personnel as well as liaisons from the utility companies available to give updates regularly and respond quickly to any problems," said Governor Malloy. "This winter weather isn't letting up, and this particular storm is packing a one-two punch. The state is ready, and I encourage everyone to take it slow and use caution."

Yesterday the Governor held conference calls with the Departments of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Public Safety, Transportation, Administrative Services, and Public Health to discuss storm preparedness.

The storm is forecast to be a two-day event with snow falling on Tuesday and mixed precipitation on Wednesday. Icing, the possibility of power outages and the added weight on already overburdened roofs is an additional concern for Wednesday. Residents are reminded to clear their roofs of excessive snow, be sure side heating vents are accessible and help ensure access to fire hydrants.
