Office of Policy & Management Release Connecticut State Agencies to See Reduced Energy Rates
The Office of Policy and Management (OPM) announced today that it has secured new fixed-price contracts to supply natural gas to Connecticut’s state agencies. One contract, covering 453 natural gas accounts for the period of July 1 through September 30, 2011, will result in a price reduction of 37.7 percent. An additional contract, covering 12 fuel-switching accounts for the same period, shows a 25.1 percent reduction. OPM estimates the combined cost savings for the state at approximately $660,000.

Gov. Malloy and Dept. of Developmental Services Use Federal Dollars to Expand Access for Clients
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the U. S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently approved a new Employment and Day Supports Waiver that will help the state Department of Developmental Services (DDS) improve access to services for people with developmental disabilities.

Gov. Malloy Betting on UConn Men in Final Four
Governor Dannel P. Malloy has a friendly wager riding on the outcome of the UConn-Kentucky matchup in this weekend’s Final Four game. Governor Malloy bet Storrs-made UConn Dairy Bar ice cream against Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear’s Kentucky country ham that the UConn men will emerge victorious over the University of Kentucky Wildcats when the teams meet on Saturday night in Houston.

Gov. Malloy Appoints Membership of Criminal Justice Commission
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has appointed six highly respected lawyers and jurists to the state’s Criminal Justice Commission. Governor Malloy named Justice Richard N. Palmer of Cromwell; Judge Juliett L. Crawford of New Haven; Mary M. Galvin of West Haven; Maura H. Horan of South Windsor; Moy N. Ogilvie of West Hartford; and Ann G. Taylor of Weatogue.

Thursday: Governor Malloy Addresses Northwest Chamber, Takes Business Tour of Technical Industries in Torrington
On Thursday afternoon, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will be the keynote speaker at the Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting in Torrington, where he will speak about his efforts to improve the business climate in Connecticut and get our state’s fiscal house in order to help create new jobs and keep the ones we have. This will be the eighth Chamber of Commerce in the state that the Governor has formally addressed in the last six weeks. Following that, Governor Malloy will take a business tour of Technical Industries, Inc. in Torrington.

Governor Malloy: Routine Rainwater Testing in Connecticut Shows No Concern for Public Health
Last week low levels of radioactive material were found in rainwater in Massachusetts during routine testing that is conducted by the federal Environmental Protection Agency. Today, Governor Dannel P. Malloy informed Connecticut residents that officials here are continuing routine tests of rainwater in the state, and that radiation levels remain in the range that is normally seen.

Governor Malloy Appoints Erika Tindill as Chair of the Board of Pardons and Paroles
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced he has named Erika M. Tindill of New Haven to serve as Chair of the state Board of Pardons and Paroles. Currently, Tindill is the Executive Director of the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, a position she’s held since 2009.

Monday: Governor Malloy Addresses Future Business Leaders Event in Cromwell, Holds Town Hall in Greenwich
On Monday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will give the keynote speech at the Connecticut Future Business Leaders of America’s State Leadership Conference in Cromwell. Approximately 800 FBLA students, their advisors, and representatives from the business industry will attend the conference, which features competitive events for the students and business-related workshops.

Gov. Malloy Announces Appointment of Joseph Perkins as Deputy Commissioner of Veterans Affairs
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that Joseph T. Perkins of Niantic has been appointed to be the Deputy Commissioner of Veterans Affairs. Most recently, Perkins worked as the Manager of Security Services at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford. He is a 22-year veteran of the Connecticut State Police Department and was a member of both the United States Marine Corps, during which time he served in Vietnam in 1965-1966, and the Connecticut Army National Guard.
