Closing Remarks of the 2023 Legislative Session
Governor Ned Lamont
State Capitol, Hall of the House of Representatives
June 8, 2023
Through you, Mr. Speaker. I've been watching CT-N a lot.
Look, I want to say in all seriousness, a job well done. You had a hard time figuring out whether pizza is our state delicacy but we'll get to that. Our bears dodged a bullet. A lot of hot air, we don't need to worry about the helium.
But, I want to say in all seriousness, in particular what you did on the budget, getting that done on time with such strong bipartisan support I think sends a message. I love watching that board when it's all green on both sides of the aisle. It was really special. Almost 100% in the Senate, pretty darn close.
That was due to the leadership working on both sides of the aisle, working together very collaboratively. I love watching the chairmen and the rankings working together, finding common ground. It's special.
Don't take it for granted. I look around the country – California's got deficits in the tens of billions of dollars, and Oregon is having a hard time getting their senators even to show up. Even Congress is locked down again right now. I hope that's briefly.
I think you showed us a different way. I think you showed us the Connecticut way, and I'm really proud of that.
With that, let me just go to my prepared remarks, if you don't mind. Have a good night, you've really deserved it.
