Connecticut Residents Invited To Attend Information Sessions and Apply for Paid National Service Opportunities
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut Higher Education Commissioner Timothy D. Larson today announced that AmeriCorps Connecticut programs are actively recruiting members for the 2026-2027 service year. Connecticut residents interested in making a difference in their communities while gaining valuable professional experience are encouraged to explore service opportunities and attend upcoming virtual information sessions.
AmeriCorps is the nation’s premier national service program, engaging Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service that addresses critical community needs. Across Connecticut, AmeriCorps members support students, improve public health outcomes, strengthen communities, and expand educational opportunities while developing leadership and workforce skills.
“Service is one of the most powerful ways people can strengthen their communities while developing valuable leadership and career skills,” Governor Lamont said. “AmeriCorps members make a meaningful impact across Connecticut every day by mentoring students, supporting public health initiatives, advancing STEM education, and helping communities address some of their most pressing challenges. These programs strengthen our communities while providing members with valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth.”
The Connecticut Office of Higher Education’s National Service Division, through Serve Connecticut, administers AmeriCorps state programs that address some of the state’s most pressing needs while providing members with valuable professional experience and pathways to future careers.
“AmeriCorps represents an investment in both our communities and our future workforce,” Commissioner Larson said. “Whether mentoring students, supporting public health initiatives, expanding STEM education opportunities, or strengthening prevention and wellness programs, AmeriCorps members are helping meet critical needs across Connecticut. At the same time, they are developing valuable leadership and professional skills that prepare them for successful careers in service, education, healthcare, and beyond.”
For the 2026-2027 service year, AmeriCorps Connecticut programs are seeking to fill multiple positions across programs statewide. Opportunities are available in communities across Connecticut and are open to individuals from diverse educational, professional, and personal backgrounds.
Programs currently recruiting members for the 2026-2027 service year include:
- Healthy Communities: Members serve with local health departments, health districts, healthcare providers, and community organizations to improve public health outcomes and address community wellness priorities.
- CT RISE Network On-Track Mentors: Members provide mentoring and support to ninth-grade high school students, helping them stay engaged in school, graduate on time, and prepare for postsecondary success.
- NESS SEA (New England Science & Sailing Foundation STEM Education AmeriCorps): Members deliver hands-on STEM learning experiences that engage students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through innovative, ocean-learning programming.
- Prevention Corps: Members support substance use prevention and promote mental health and community wellness initiatives designed to improve outcomes for Connecticut residents.
