(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he has signed legislation into law establishing policies and procedures in state statutes regarding how legislatively directed funds—commonly known as “earmarks”—are proposed, reviewed, and distributed in order to provide the public with greater transparency and accountability.
“The residents of Connecticut are rightfully demanding greater transparency and accountability on earmarks, and that is why I put a proposal on the table requiring this information be made available to the public every time these types of spending decisions are made,” Governor Lamont said. “Nonprofit organizations across our state depend on this important funding to help fulfill their mission-driven goals of providing critical services to our communities, and these reforms implement protections to see that these funds are available for the purposes which they were intended. I thank the legislature for unanimously voting to send this bill to my desk so that I could sign it into law today.”
The legislation is Public Act 26-27. It was approved in the House of Representatives by a vote of 141 to 0 and the Senate by a vote of 36 to 0.
