(ROCKY HILL, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut Veterans Affairs Commissioner Ron Welch today announced that additional temporary supportive housing for veterans and their families has been added to the main campus of the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs in Rocky Hill as part of the first phase of a multi-phase expansion of the state’s Patriots Landing program.
The program makes temporary housing available for veterans and their families who are in need of this support and connects them with the services needed to successfully transition to community living.
This first phase, which is now complete, consists of increasing the number of available family housing units from five homes to eleven homes as part of a multi-building renovation project that rehabilitated existing buildings on the campus. It was made possible with funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) that was approved by Governor Lamont and the state legislature.
“The growth of this program and the number of housing units underscores the state’s unwavering commitment to supporting our veterans and their families,” Governor Lamont said. “Our veterans have made tremendous sacrifices for our country, and it is our duty to ensure they receive the support and care they deserve.”
“We are excited to increase our services to Connecticut’s veterans,” Commissioner Welch said. “By expanding temporary family housing, we are not only addressing the immediate needs of our veteran families but also fostering a supportive community. The Patriots Landing program provides robust wrap-around services from affordable safe housing to case management to social and mental health support. Our goal is to assist veterans and their families with getting back on their feet and taking advantage of all the benefits they have earned while in service to our great state and county.”
Looking ahead, the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs will continue to implement initiatives that support opportunities for veterans. Phase 2 of this housing project is focused on renovating townhouses located at the rear of the agency’s main campus and aims to increase the number of temporary housing opportunities for eligible individual veterans. Phase 2 has a projected completion date in spring 2026.
