(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz released the following statements regarding the passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka:
Governor Lamont said, “Richard Trumka has been a tireless advocate for fairness in America’s economy, fighting for the hard-working people of our nation to ensure their voices are heard and valued. He has made an incredible impact improving the workplace for millions of people. He fiercely led the AFL-CIO forward despite consistent attacks on the greater organized labor movement, like the Janus decision, bolstering wages and improving conditions for millions of workers across our country. I am saddened to learn the news of his passing, and my condolences are with his family and union brothers and sisters at the AFL-CIO.”
Lt. Governor Bysiewicz said, “Richard Trumka devoted his life to fighting for working women and men in America. In 2019, I had the honor of standing with Richard Trumka at a rally in greater New Haven, as we stood in solidarity with the UFCW as Stop & Shop workers successfully struck for better pay and benefits. In his 12 years as president of the AFL-CIO, he was a powerful voice for unions and for millions of working families in Connecticut and across the country. My thoughts are with his family and with the 12.5 million members of the AFL-CIO as they mourn his tragic passing.”
