Statement From Governor Lamont’s Office Regarding Today’s Transportation Meeting

11/26/2019

(HARTFORD, CT) – Max Reiss, Director of Communications for Governor Ned Lamont, released the following statement in response to comments made by Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano at the conclusion of today’s bipartisan meeting regarding transportation:

“Senator Fasano must be talking about a completely different meeting and a totally different plan. Today, Governor Lamont asked legislative leaders from both sides of the aisle to come together and discuss for nearly two hours how to grow the state’s economy and fix its broken transportation system. For the last several months, the governor’s administration has invested considerably in collaboratively working towards a bipartisan solution – one that included Senator Fasano. The spirit of today’s discussion was a continuation of that effort.

“It’s unfortunate that Senator Fasano has decided to walk away from the discussion and finding a solution simply because his colleagues rejected his plan to raid $1.5 billion from the state’s budget reserves, risking the state’s fiscal future and leaving hundreds of thousands of Connecticut families at risk in the event of an economic downturn. We don’t need a reminder of what happened the last time we did that. We’ve been down this road before, and it led to tax increases and service cuts.

“Further, it’s a shame that after all of this time, Senator Fasano repays it with cheap political jabs, which do nothing to advance the dialogue or fix the problem – all because he’s not getting his way. Today, it became abundantly clear that Governor Lamont, Senate Democrats, and House Democrats are the only ones looking out for our taxpayers’ best interests and the only ones with a plan that takes advantage of revenue from out-of-state trucks, keeps the middle class from being vulnerable during a recession, and moves our state responsibly forward.”
